Aleksandra Śmialowska Weglinska

National Veterinary Research Institute
Poland
Working Groups: WG3
Scientific Expertise: Microbiology
Contribution: I offer my diagnostic skills and knowledge about the occurrence of antimicrobial resistance, antimicrobial genes, and the occurrence of Salmonella spp., E. coli, and Klebsiella spp. in the environment.
Motivation: As a member of the reference laboratory in salmonellosis and antimicrobial resistance, I am fully aware that animal health requires biosecurity implementation and knowledge-sharing activities. As a participant in the BTSF training and base of knowledge, I gained while working in the reference laboratory I would like to exchange my experience with other participants and share my knowledge as I got so far.
Scientific Background: I am a microbiologist working at the National Veterinary Research Institute for 8 years. As a team member of the reference laboratory I am responsible for Salmonella spp. and Escherichia coli detection in pigs, cattle, ducks, geese, laying hens, fertilizers, and AMR research. Currently, I started scientific activity consisting of the assessment of the occurrence of Klebsiella spp. in birds and the antimicrobial resistance of isolated bacteria based. I have a solid laboratory-based experience in classic and molecular microbiology and started to get knowledge in whole genome sequencing (for example training in Introduction to Bioinformatics for genomic data mining). I was involved in projects such as EFFORT, IMPART, and ADONIS. What's more, I participated in OH School Training, and lately, I had the opportunity to participate in the BTSF training associated with biosecurity.
