We are offering a PhD student position for candidates interested in working on a multidisciplinary project aimed at quantitatively determining the effective routes of transmission of different swine and avian pathogens and evaluating the most effective biosecurity measures for each of them. The doctoral project is integrated into a large project that aims to develop artificial intelligence systems for optimizing health in pig and poultry farms. The candidate will join a research group with long experience in infectious diseases and animal epidemiology at the Veterinary Faculty of Barcelona, one of the leading veterinary schools in Europe. The salary adjusts to the standards for this type of position in Spain.
The thesis is expected to last four years in which the candidate must work on biosecurity assessments and the determination of pathogen transmission pathways between farms in a system using molecular biology and next-generation sequencing techniques. At the end of their PhD period, it is expected that the candidate will have acquired solid skills in biosecurity assessment and in detection techniques and genetic characterization of pathogens that will allow him/her both for scientific work in the field of applied epidemiology and for positions such as biosecurity manager in production companies.
Candidates must send their CV before January 21, 2024 to: Prof. Enric Mateu (enric.mateu@uab.cat) or Prof. Alberto Allepuz (alberto.allepuz@uab.cat)
