Postdoc offer PROFAGO project Digesporc ULE

Postdoc offer PROFAGO project Digesporc ULE

Closing date: 5th February 2024

Project summary: The post-antibiotic era requires research that provides alternatives to antibiotic therapy. PRO-FAGO activities aim to explore new research lines in microbial resilience and phage therapy in the control of one of the diseases with the highest impact on livestock, the post-weaning diarrhea (PWD) caused by enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) in pigs. Through four tasks including 1) characterization of on-farm infection in individual animals 2) fine-tune mapping of the gut microbiome at weaning and during the infection (using shotgun metagenomic sequencing) 3) a challenge under controlled conditions providing a consortium of bacteria supporting the intestinal resilience and 4) the study of the potential of phage therapy in the control of this pathogen, the researchers aim to provide new solutions for ETEC PWD control.

The relevance of the topic, together with the disruptive design, guarantee sound science and highly scientific impact, with a collaboration plan with regional, national and international groups.
